KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 32 mm, 16.79 g, 1 h), Miletos, circa 210-190. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, Milesian lion standing left, head to right, with star above and monogram of MI below; to inner right, ΛΞ; below throne, monogram of ΦΛ. Price 2182. Rare. A splendid example, struck on a broad flan and of flamboyant Hellenistic style. A few faint old cleaning scratches, otherwise, good extremely fine.
